Hello,
For statement 2,each of the two opposite faces has an area of 40 is this statement, not equivalent to saying that xy,yz and zx, each of them is 40 ? in that case we can find volume by using statement 2 alone . Please let me know .

Statement 2 says: "Each of two opposite faces of the solid has area 40."

So we only know that two opposite faces have area 40, and not three! This does not mean that xy, yz and zx all have area 40. ONE of these sides has area 40, and it's corresponding opposite side does as well.
