I think it is gerund . Please correct me if I am wrong?
I many questions I observed noun form of action verb is preferred .

C will be preferred over a and b

Hi Shekhar,
A gerund is a verb acting as a noun. In E, though, "envisioning" is a modifier, describing the essay. Modifiers using -ing are often suspect on the GMAT, but E has several issues that make it wrong. In the example you gave, A and C are both acceptable, but B is grammatically incorrect.
