o A: CORRECT: The question pretty clearly fails to distinguish between who is buying the ice cream (parents or "homeowners aged 40-50"), and who is eating the ice cream (kids of those parents, or "teenagers). If the question provided further information about consumption habits, not just purchasing habits, "A" could be incorrect potentially, but it doesn't.

o B: WRONG. The argument covers this in a way. By stating that a certain demographic (HO 40-50) buy ice cream more than any other group, it doesn't really need to further discuss the other age groups of homeowners. What's the point of saying "homeowners age 40-50 buy more ice cream than homeowners 50-60, homeowners 20-30, etc. etc."

o C: WRONG: There isn't anything in the argument saying "it's our belief" or "popular belief is homeowners age 40-50...." It just doesn't cover that. Also the language makes it seem like this came from a study of some sort, although that assumption leap can be dangerous with GMAT questions.

o D: WRONG. Relates to Answer B. Why say "home owners 40-50 buy 50 gallons, homeowners 20-30 buy 20 gallons, etc. etc." All that you need to know HO 40-50 buy more than anyone else.

o E: WRONG: nutrition doesn't relate at all here.
