Hurricanes at first begin traveling from east to west, because that direction is the way the prevailing winds in the tropics blow, but they then veer off toward higher latitudes, in many cases changing direction toward the east before dissipating over the colder, more northerly waters or over land.

In the OG explanation for option C, it says the dependent clause is followed by the main clause. But I find the main clause to be dependent only. Am I wrong here?

Hi Parijat :)

I agree with your analysis. First, here's answer choice C for reference:

Hurricanes at first begin traveling from east to west, because that direction is the way the prevailing winds in the tropics...

When we replace the underlined part in the original sentence with this option, we are left without a main verb. This, in turn, means that really, there is no main clause when C is used.
