hi Mike,
I am confused about your post of this question on the gmatclub's forums

here is the excerpt:
(2a) It costs about the same to run nuclear plants as it costs to run other types of power plants. = correct but too wordy
(2b) It costs about the same to run nuclear plants as to run other types of power plants. = better, with the common words "to run" dropped in the second branch.
(2c) It costs about the same to run nuclear plants as for other types of power plants. = even more elegant: this is what the GMAT loves!

I got the idea that 2C is correct one, right?

while, I got a contract idea that 2C is incorrect from your explanation
C. Even though it costs about the same to run nuclear plants as for other types of power plants, it is the fixed costs that stem from building nuclear plants that makes the electricity they generate more expensive.
The comparison at the beginning is funky .....we could have
(1) it costs about the same to run nuclear plants as other types of power plants
or
(2) the cost of running nuclear plants is about the same as for other types of power plants
but combining these two correct versions, putting the "for" in with the verb "to run," is redundant. This also has the unnecessary emphatic construction in the second half. This is incorrect.

thanks a lot

have a nice day>_~

Hi Shu,

It looks to me like there's a mistake in Mike's explanation here.

"It costs about the same to run nuclear plants as for other types of power plants" —> this is incorrect. The second part of Mike's explanation is correct:

The comparison at the beginning is funky .....we could have:

(1) it costs about the same to run nuclear plants as other types of power plants
or
(2) the cost of running nuclear plants is about the same as for other types of power plants

but combining these two correct versions, putting the "for" in with the verb "to run," is redundant.

This part of the explanation is right :)

I hope that helps!
