Although she was considered among her contemporaries to be the better poet than her husband, later Elizabeth Barrett Browning was overshadowed by his success.

According to OG explanation and personal understanding, I summarize some key points in this case.
1. Be considered sth. "sth" should be subject to "touch rule". if not, that could be confusing to think of "other thing" which is closer to "considered" as the target.( in this point, D is better than others.)
2. The article "the" is incorrect because when comparing two objects, we use "a" rather than "the". (A should be eliminated.)
3. Past perfect is used to stress the subsequence and "signal tense". And the conjunction functioning as contrast should not be omitted because it changes the meaning of the sentence. ( C should be eliminated.)
4. When it comes to comparison, be agreed. (E should be eliminated.)
