I wanted to write you to guys to express my gratitude. I started out my GMAT preparation in state of apprehension. I majored in Art History in college, and since then have worked in IT. My interests and inclinations have changed since I graduated, and after a couple of years of experience and self evaluation, I realized that I was truly fascinated with the processes and logistics of business. In a very nerdy way. The major problem with this was that I had majored in a very liberal arts field, and worked in a sector that was, while more quantitative, not necessarily that business-oriented. When I began to study for the test, I felt lost confronting the quantitative section. I’ve always been a naturally verbal person; my mother is a writer and my father was an English teacher who forced Shakespeare down my throat at an annoyingly young age. So after a couple weeks of studying verbal with the OG, I felt pretty confident. But the quantitative section was a completely different beast. I'm not particularly bad at math and I'm not particularly good either. I have zero feelings about it. But the GMAT requires you to be exceptional. Not just in a 'memorize these formulas' way, but in a way that requires you to have a very deeply rooted understanding of and fascination with the basic principles of mathematics. And I simply never developed that. I haven’t had to do serious math since 2008, and I never really found a reason to care about it. I tried a number of services, but most of them were, frankly, crap. I didn’t have enough money to afford the very expensive services either. So I was stuck with these sets of questions and answers with explanations that were either extremely confusing or entirely nonexistent. I tried Magoosh because of the January sale. What the hell. $100. And I gotta tell you, it has been the single most important factor in improving my quantitative score. I saved up my vacation days and used them to take a week off of work, during which, I went through every single Magoosh quantitative problem. I listened to many of the lessons. I documented the things I felt that were valuable. Chief among them was Mike McGarry’s insistence on developing “number sense,” a concept that was unfamiliar to me. Even the very simple things that he taught, like quickly figuring out what 15% of a number is, were new to me. Things that I was kicking myself about, but still new. I spent a month or so, on his advice, doing every single calculation in my head. Memorizing prime numbers. Picking apart random numbers. If I bought a case of beer, I calculated how much it would have been in quarters, then nickels, then dimes and nickels. I broke down every single number in front of me. Fast forward to today. I’ve taken more than two dozen practice tests, through different services. On each of the practice tests I had a relatively high verbal score and a relatively abysmal-to-average math score. I averaged about 680 in total. That’s what I was expecting to get. When I took the test today, I actually could not believe how easy it was. I was used to the onslaught of “very hard” questions from Magoosh, which perpetually confounded me and left me feeling like I had months of preparation left. But one question after another, I knew exactly what to do because I had done it on Magoosh 20 times before (I went through every quantitative question a second time). And for a surprise to end all surprises, I got in the 87th percentile for quant and the 99th percentile over all. I got a 760. I wanted to thank you because Magoosh was the single most effective, and cost-effective, resource available. I did not have the advantage of being able to afford expensive prep classes but you rectified that! It is a hugely important factor to be able to offer students of all means quality resources. The primary purpose of this letter is a genuine, sincere thank you. Every single day that I used Magoosh I saw that banner “Person X just scored a 760! See how!” which I frankly, annoyedly, thought was just because they were inhumanly talented but I now realize is actually possible. I used Magoosh in conjunction with the Manhattan Prep books, and because I find their textbooks helpful, I used them as my first source for learning material, but when I encountered something tricky, I turned to the Magoosh lessons, and these often provided a different approach that helped to clarify things. The practice questions, however, along with the video explanations that followed each one, were a huge help. Being able to customize practice to focus on one area - geometry for instance - while learning that material, or to cycle through a variety of question types to retain that info, was incredibly helpful in developing stronger, quicker skills, and gaining the confidence necessary to tackle the GMAT. Having the dashboard update progress and estimated score range was incredibly motivating. |

The videos were so invaluable to me. I am a full-time law student. I took the GMAT in pursuit of the JD/MBA program, and it was tough to study for the GMAT while maintaining a full course load of law school. I had not taken a math class in about 8 years, since high school, so I needed to re-learn a lot of material. The lesson videos helped me so much and made me so much more confident going into the test. Being able to take practice questions online is also extremely helpful. Since the actual GMAT is all on a computer, studying from a book just doesn't cut it. Magoosh is so worth it. Great value for excellent content. |

Magoosh's question set is second to none. Honestly, I think that the questions on the Magoosh site were more test like than the retired OG materials. Also, the video explanations are amazing. Something that should not be overlooked is the professionalism of the Magoosh team. Mike McGarry expects people to live excellence to achieve excellence; this can be seen on forum posts when a student uses colloquial language when discussing a sentence correction problem. Mike's approach is by no means harsh or rude but should be seen as encouraging. In addition, the response time of the team when submitting a question on the site is extremely quick and helpful. There was never a need to send a follow-up email because the first email was very thorough. For the price, Magoosh is totally worth it. |

The largest strength that Magoosh has is the explanation videos. I believe that the questions in the question bank fairly represented the actual test, with the math being a tad bit more difficult. This helped me prepare for the actual test. |
